This contest has a rather lucrative prize and has been opened to everyone. As such, it has attracted all types of contestants, most of whom seem to be beginners. I'm not going to pretend to be a branding master, but I do have some level of knowledge, experience and success in the field.

My chief concern is that the sheer volume of entries will effectively clutter the environment such that the higher quality entries may be overlooked.

What are you guys doing to make sure you can efficiently review thousands of designs?

Ryan,

Excellent question! We have developed an admin section for us to look at and rate all the designs. We have setup filters and customizable views so we can easily navigate all of the entries and give feedback.

We've been asked the question, "Should we keep re-posting our entries to keep them at the top of the forum?" This won't be necessary. We will be able to track every and all entries. If everyone kept re-posting their entries it would slow down the system we have in place and our feedback on the entries.

We will be posting a list of the top entries on our blog throughout the contest so everyone can see the progress. We will be giving feedback on the entries soon and we appreciate your contributions thus far in the contest!

Keep it up!

What do you do with ideas that are so similar to each other? I noticed my first design is basically the same concept as another designer's who posted 4-hours before me. I certainly did not copy their idea but we seem to have had the same thought and similar executions. Are they both still valid, or does the one submitted later get disqualified?

How do you handle multiple similar (if not almost exact) ideas?

Thanks!

I was just looking at the new view entry thing and noticed some of my designs had "elemintated " written under them. So that means i can delete those ones since you guys dont like them and elemintated them?

I have also concern about the rating process, it seems you post a reply on one of my entry and it says that you like the concept but why is it eliminated?

Also when an entry got 3,4 or 5 stars, are they included in the final selection?

Graeme,

Great question! We'll eliminate any entry that we feel a designer has purposely copied. We'll send the person a message if we feel they have done this.

Thank you,

Aso,

We've been eliminating designs either because we aren't considering them, or because you may have several different examples of that particular design already and we're trying to clear some space.

We ask that if you have a design that has been eliminated you leave it in the system. Just because an image has that status, doesn't mean we won't come back to that particular concept or design. We're trying to make this as easy as possible for everyone involved.

We thank you for the questions!

Haetro,

Aso's question was similar to yours. We've eliminated designs if we aren't considering them or if you have since posted a different version of the design that we may be leaning toward. We're doing this to clear some space from the entry viewer.

If your design has been eliminated and we say we like it, it's probably because we have a different version of the logo you've submitted. We will still be going to the eliminated designs throughout the contest to ensure we aren't losing a valuable concept or design.

With the stars... One star means that the concept and design are okay, but both need quite a bit of work.

Two stars mean that there is some work to do to help it be one of the top designs.

We are rating the top ones at this point three stars. These are entries that we feel are getting really close to being where we want them to be. These are entries that may need a little refining.

We will start rating four stars when we feel the design can be moved into the finals. We will probably wait until further in the contest to start giving this rating because we still have some time to go with the contest. We're sure we will start seeing more talent as the contest moves forward.

Five stars basically means your design is one of the top designs that we will choose the winners from. We feel that to give five stars means that it's the best...and not the best so far... We do this because we want it to be clear when the winner is chosen and we don't want to give anyone any false hope.

We realize that this is probably a different way of rating a contest like this and hope you will give us your feedback on this system. We thank you for your questions!

Thank you,

TPD

Dear Sir,
I've read about judging with the star's rank system. The result we can see it at entry viewer. After browsing the viewer, it seems I have a little confusion about how the perfect design team judged the entry. I have no doubt you guys had already work hard to see and to make a rank to all contestants. But, a few of designs with three stars, I think, need to work again. There are many mistakes in composition, font size, color combination and some are not quite fit to the perfect design site sample. A lot of two or one star designs, I believe, are more attractive, close to the criterium, and have outstanding ideas. Please, I'm not offending to this contest. This is for all, we can do better for this lovely encouraging site. Thanks

One more question, how we can follow the rating process on our submission? Cause at the entry viewer, we have to search manually page by page. Hey guys, there are a hundreds pages to find our entries. Maybe, you can add search facility at the entry viewer. Thanks

After all these submissions so far, is there anything that you guys want to be more specific about with what kind of logo you are looking for? Many people are just throwing idea after idea, and I think that it would be better for you and for us contestants to focus on the ideas that we do have that you do like in order to get closer to that perfect design you are looking for.

There seems to be two major categories of ideas so far. The more common one is about presenting the initials P and D in a graphic way, while the much less popular approach is a graphic carries meaning beyond just the initials in the name.

Regarding your star rating system:

I'm a bit confused about it, but I suspect the contestants are able to rate the submissions? I've seen some logos submitted that have 5-star ratings that aren't even logos for this contest but rather just random 3D effects, while other logos seem to be quite good and don't have any ratings whatsoever.

Can you clarify this point? Thanks for the opportunity... I know you are probably overwhelmed with trying to keep up!

Igepe,

We are currently cleaning up the system. Judging all of these designs is quite a process and we agree, some of the ratings need a little work.

We're trying to give as much feedback as possible and ask for everyone's patience as we work through this.

Thank you for posting your concerns. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Igepe,

We will consider adding this. We truly added the entry viewer so we can scroll through and easily rate entries. We added the ability for designers to see the entry viewer as an afterthought, so you can see the top rated entries to kind of get an idea of what we're leaning toward.

Thanks again for your questions!

Mike,

Thank you for your question and comments. We agree with you. A lot of people are just posting idea after idea...sometimes we wonder if they even read the design requirements. That's why we posted this thread http://theperfectdesign.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17588 at the beginning of the contest forum. Please read this thread and it will help.

Also, regarding your comments about the two major categories of ideas... We would love to see some ideas other than just the P and D concepts that are being posted. We ask that all designs submitted have an explanation. That way if you post a logo we can see where the design is coming from. We've had multiple entries that didn't make sense until they were explained.

We thank you for your participation in this contest! Please let us know if you have additional questions or further clarification.

Graeme,

Thank you for the question! No, the contestants are not able to rate the submissions. You may be referring to the star ratings found in the forums. Some contestants have rated other forums for their own personal preferences, but we don't go by those ratings. We created an entry viewer where we actually do all the ratings for the designs.

Please go to http://theperfectdesign.com/entryviewer/ to see how we are rating the designs. To see the rated entries, please change the filters to: Sort by: Rating, Filter: Active; then click Go and it will filter the designs.

We are definitely trying to keep up, so we appreciate your patience and feedback. Please let us know if you need anything else.

1600+ entries with 3 stars and still counting, that's a very large amount of entries to consider, and also a really tough job for the tpd crew to breakdown those figure to get the top 3. Goodluck guys and keep up the good work :)

just wanted to say thanks for making this contest,
its been a blast workin for it!

I just have a question, I posted a submission for the contest and then en the entry
viewer I can see them with the rest of the others... ok so they got some stars and
it seems like you can vote with those star rankins but I click on them an nothing
happens, so my questions is:

this is a people vote contest?
or the stars just reflect some kind of internal voting from your crew?
how that part of the thing works?

well I think thats it...
thanks for the contest again
and for your time.
