A Graphic Design Blog

Everyone has a blog nowadays, everyone! And you should have one too!

An incalculable number of blog sites have sprung up across the virtual landscape that is the internet. Offering up opinions, education, opportunities of introduction (to individuals, corporations, services and products), ratings, and every other topic of social benefit or entertainment.

Blogging is a great way to express yourself and show people your knowledge and skills as a designer. It will help people get to know you as well as help with SEO ( search engine optimization) because of the content that will be related to graphic design and your area of focus. It will also help your writing skills.

If you already have a website, adding a blog to it helps to personalize the experience of the individual who is out there searching for your services and expertise. In experiencing your blog, they have a chance to sample your individual style and approach to see if you are in concord with the direction they are looking to travel to solve their creative needs.

Express Yourself Professionally

Your professional blog should be just that, professional. Do not use your design blog to air personal opinions (not related to the field of design), past yarns, venting, idle gossip and/or meandering dialogue. Your blog entries will function as a publicly accessible evaluative to determine the level of your rational maturity, the degree of dedication to your craft and the measure and ability of your commitment to a contract.

You owe it to yourself and your business to research the networking potential and personal appeal of a running blog. With the myriad faceless corporate and franchise offerings clamoring for clientele you can provide professional assurance and personal relief from the dystopia of generic design services by implementing the simple addition of a well-groomed blog-site. Use it to express yourself (professionally), to interact with clients and potential clients, and to establish a lucrative networking forum.

The Power of SEO for your Graphic Design Website

Once you have a website you need to utilize the power of the search engine. When was the last time you “googled” something? Hairdresser, Plumber, directions to the library. A majority of people these days use search engines to find goods and services.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important in making your business grow. You can get jobs because someone visited your site by typing in certain key words into a search engine, like Google or Yahoo. Your expertise is graphic design, but it might not hurt to make your job search easier and invest in some SEO education.

When creating content for your website search engine optimization should be a priority. You can have the best site in the world but no way for people to find it. Think of SEO as the directions to your site. Create a map for people to follow. The better you optimize your page, the easier to find (or better ranked) your site will become. Your goal should be to get on the first page of a search engine.

Title Tags and Meta Tags

Make sure that each page you create is has title tags and meta tags. A meta tag is a line of html code that contains metadata, essentially a description of your site in code. Search engines use spiders that look for this yummy information. Not all of the spiders look for information in the same way so your ranking may still vary from search engine to search engine.

Also remember it is never too late to optimize your website. It’s easiest to include this in your initial content draft for your site, but adding it later is a way to improve your traffic. Keep in mind what keywords or phrases you should target. Make sure they are relevant to the kind of traffic you want.

Keep optimizing and the next time you “google” your name you might be surprised to find yourself on top.
