About Scott, aka EastCoast Creative

I was born and raised in Toronto and currently live in Nova Scotia, and absolutely love it. I must have some “Blue Noser” in me.

Long story short, I’ve always been able to draw and paint…then it all stopped due to a tragic event in my life which effected my life forever. This event caused me to loose my inner creativity, for a number of years I was in a job that was not suit me me, though it was a great opportunity and travel but I was not happy…until one day I woke up and decide to change all that…I’ve not looked back since.

I was to far outside the loop I had no idea what I was going to do..I knew that design would play a roll but not fine art I was not ready for that yet. I did return to college and took IT go figure hahahaha but I was still being drawn to design (no pun intended)..I dove straight in had no idea what I was doing…but luckily I pick up on things quickly ..research research research I cannot stress that enough.

Got a wee bit side track you asked the inspiration… it has been and always will be that inner voice guiding me from the day I was born.

Freelance Graphic Design

I do Freelance…some people thrive on group environments…I prefer solitude to guide me…plus I having the skills and experience to work for myself it’s a natural choice for me…not everyone can do it effectively. What is not natural is an office desk…I shutter at that thought.

My favourite aspect of graphic design is having the chance to work on very unique and once in a life-time projects… I’ve done several from designing a vehicle for a local company (which is in the patent office) to designing a hand held device soon to be released and custom artwork…hopefully more will follow.

Michael Jackson Memorial Services

I recently had the opportunity to be the sole designer for the Michael Jackson Memorial services…a client of mine who’s in the event planning industry called me at short notice (3 days) asking if I would be interested in preparing some design work for MJ memorial…”Of course!” I said, “Absolutely!” It was incredible! I was on the phone with publishers trying to obtain release letters etc…got blocked at every turn but that never stopped me I came up with a brilliant solution that my client fell in love with and required no release agreements. I was done ahead of schedule 2 days with 1 day to spare and I waited for feedback etc…but it all got squashed when on day three when the venue was squashed and moved to the Corel Centre and a new Event planning company…yeah I was disappointed but also grateful to at least have the chance of life time…

A little bit of wisdom from one graphic designer to his peers

Some business advice I have for my peers is; Never give a quote…Why? Because most potential new clients already have contacted several other designers or firms and already have an figure in mind..I ask what is your budget…by doing so I control the meeting or telephone call not the other way around. Of course steady clients are a different matter…

Some of my fav artists, such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh, Robert Bateman, Emily Carr and of course the group of Seven (all) have influenced me in my work.

Just kick your own…

As far as writer’s block goes… I’ve never given that much thought…nothing specific…just kicking my own ass for not getting out of a rut hahahahaha

Something I’m passionate about, other than graphic design, is the absolute definitive proof of life other than on our planet whether it’s microbial or intelligent.

Where do I see myself in the future? I am person of today, I have no idea what will happen tomorrow…however, if I have projects on the go then they take priority over anything else.
