A Rule Of Thumb In Presenting Designs

Rule-Of-Thumb-In-Presenting-Designs-ThePerfectDesign

There is an old rule of thumb when it comes to presenting design. Don’t ever show your client something you would not want them to choose. They almost always choose the concept you least want them to use. Present only what you would be proud of putting your name on.

The client often times will choose a concept or design that is surprising to you. Don’t try to force your ideas on them. At this phase in the project you are now relying on the gut reaction and intuition of the client. They ultimately know what is right for them and their company. It may not be your most stellar design or your favorite idea, but it might be right for them. Trust that they are making the best decision based off of information and insight that you may not be aware of.

Respect And Trust Your Client’s Judgment

When the client has selected their final choice, instead of wasting breath arguing them into another direction, trust their judgment and work from there. This may not be the death of your dream concept; you may be able to still utilize elements from the runners-up in later pieces or even for other clients.

Respecting your client’s wishes builds trust in your relationship. Realize that you might not always know what’s best for them to achieve their goals, but you are there to help them along the way.

Think of all your projects as rough drafts. Present them as you would different paths in a road, none of them bad, each with a distinctive journey. Be prepared to go down any of these roads with your client. If you plan for this in advance, the road will be enjoyable and smooth for both you and your client.
