Continue Learning, Even At Hardest Times

A client that is a back-seat designer has just deflated your ego by insisting you change everything on your initial draft down to the font on the copyright text. You just realized you don’t have the knowledge it takes to win a particularly complex and financially rewarding project. Or worst of all, your 12-year old nephew just figured out how to code a form for his website that functions better than anything you have ever done.
All of these things can be a designer’s worst nightmare. There may be times when you feel like you are slaying a dragon every day. Fear of the unknown, or realizing what you don’t know can be very unnerving. Don’t limit yourself by what you don’t know. Don’t go down that road! Take a chance and learn. Growth sometimes comes from the hardest times of your life. Take those times and chalk them up to experience and keep moving forward.
Overcome Personal Obstacles By Manipulating Them Into Powerful Motivation

There is one simple truth in life, if you feel afraid, you are about experience something new. Think about the rush that you felt from a long anticipated kiss, skydiving or even your first design job. They all brought up feelings of anxiety at first, then you survived and you were better for the experience. The good part is, usually you survive. The bad part is, anxiety may lesson with time, but it will always be there. You can either let it cripple you with fear or you can utilize it as rocket fuel to launch yourself to your dreams.
Take those butterflies and give that energy a purpose. Wrangle that difficult client well and they will keep coming back to you (even if you don’t want them to), solicit knowledge from your colleagues and on-line communities to help with complex projects, buy your nephew a milkshake and figure out what he did with that code that made his form so darned functional.
Overcome your roadblocks and personal obstacles by manipulating them into powerful motivation.
