Market To A Specific Niche – Graphic Design Tip #33
This post is an expansion of tip #33 in our post 101 Graphic Design Tips for Business Success.
Niche Marketing: Be Specific

Marketing to a specific niche will do several things for you that will help you, naturally, get more business:
It helps you become an expert, by practice, in a particular area of business.
It gives you more visibility. People within that niche are more likely to hear and talk about you than ‘Average Joe’ who doesn’t focus on any particular niche.
You will find that industries have nuances that are special to them. They are attracted to marketing in a certain way. Medical professions may prefer design that is clean, utilizing fresh colors like blues and greens to promote health while nightclubs may lean toward using black, reds, and “hot” colors for excitement and sex appeal.
Take Time To Focus On Your Strengths

Take notice of the niches you are particularly good at and type of clientele or project that you are attracted to. Build a portfolio with specialized materials and you will have a greater chance of attracting more of the same type of projects. Clients look for expertise and for someone that knows their business, understands their customers, and can execute what they need quickly.
Pay attention to the marketing tools of the trade. It might be an industry trend to utilize email blasts, web banners, or direct mailers and publications. Find out what they want and get really good at delivering those materials the way they like them.
Time spent focusing on your strengths and direction will lead you to a solid clientele base and cohesive portfolio.
