Designer Spotlight – Tim Brewster
Timothy Brewster – USA
According to my mom, I’ve been drawing since I was about 2. I’ve always had that passion. In my younger years, it was mainly cars. I was hard pressed to draw anything else, much to the dismay of my art teachers! They always wanted me to do different things, “Expand myself”. I’m not sure when I went from simply drawing to designing things, but it happened at an early age. It started with the cars, then it went to houses, then to logo design and graphics. I didn’t get deep into graphic design until after I graduated from high school and took some computer art and typography classes at a local community college. Those classes provided the foundation, but by studying others, and through simple trial and error, I’ve honed my skills.
The design market is pretty decent where I live. I’m only about 30 minutes from Cleveland, so there are adequate jobs available being so close to a big city. However, I would say it’s better around the Columbus area, which is about two hours south of me.
The Internet has helped me out a lot with graphic design. As stated above, part of my growth can be attributed to studying others. A lot of the great designs I’ve found have been through the Internet. It’s also been helpful in that there are numerous sites offering tutorials not only on software programs, but also how to create cool, memorable effects.
I’m not sure I would change anything about the graphic design world. It’s something that is always changing, always staying fresh. It doesn’t get boring.
I think theperfectdesign.com could make me a better artist just by providing the means of getting feedback and constructive critisizm on my work, either by someone working with the site, or by other designers that are members.
