This post is an expansion of tip #91 in our post 101 Graphic Design Tips for Business Success.

Write a 30 second commercial for yourself:

When people ask you what you do for a living, do you say, “I’m a graphic designer,” or do you say, “I create graphic tools for businesses that help them establish and re-establish their brand within their respective market.”

You could explore your expertise in creating and maintaining brands or your concepts for creating amazing logos. Tell your unique story or the way you feel, such as “Graphic Design and the local community are socially and artistically entwined…etc.”

Huh?

Prepare to share your unique perspective and personal opinions on the study and practice of Graphic Design. Portray your expertise by putting thought into the theory, interpretation, and pitch soundly for your profession. The more you practice your inner design dialog, the more confidant it will sound outward.

This will get a lot of, “Huh?” type conversations going, but it makes you look like you know what you’re talking about. You have just become an expert on branding and not just a graphic designer…hooray!
