I’m A Graphic Designer!

Be sure of yourself when you call yourself a designer! You own the right to call yourself that and make recommendations to clients because you’re the one that went to school and learned the processes necessary to provide them what they need. The client calls the shot, but not until you’ve offered up what you know to be the right choice.

Readiness is a key for building confidence. Take what you know and apply it professionally to everything you do. Prep before meeting a client with important information about them, their business and how you can apply your talents to help them achieve their goals. Take the time to explain to them how you can align your skills to their needs.

If you find yourself intimidated by the task at hand, remind yourself of why you wanted to become a designer. Your interest in the media of art, your powerful desire to communicate or your ability to problem solve will see you through. Trust in yourself and your abilities. You may find certain projects intimidating at first, face the challenge and your fears head on. You have been trained, and will learn as you go.

It’s Just Marketing 101

Not everyone can do this job, and do it well. You have become a unique animal that knows business, marketing and selling through art. Boldly display your expertise in this area. You don’t have to brag, but talking yourself up isn’t bad either – it’s just marketing 101. When you are confident in yourself, others will be more relaxed knowing that you are in control and know what you are doing (even if you haven’t quite figured it out yet).

Get out there and remember that you don’t know everything. There is always something to be learned, so if you make a mistake, don’t sweat it, keep moving forward with confidence.
