Are You Invisible?

It is important to keep yourself visible in order to get work. Open up your schedule for various networking events in the area. They may not be Graphic Design related, but every industry needs Graphic Design. Your local Chamber of Commerce meeting, Technology Summit, or an Art Studio opening can be a place for you to gain knowledge of what people are in the market for and introduce you to potential clients. Attend these meetings and see if you can become a presenter for one of these events, or even host one.

If you find that you are ready, set yourself apart as an expert and speak. Host your own event. Think back to projects you have done recently and if they are specific to a particular group of people that you could gather together. Say you have done several things for realtors or medical professionals; you can host a small event to show them how they can market their business better utilizing graphic design. Create a package specifically designed for them and their needs and get ready to present it.

Plan A Good, Inexpensive Event

This doesn’t have to be a fancy or expensive event. Look for an inexpensive and comfortable place to meet, send out invitations, and advertise via your website and email. Plan on having a short presentation prepared that is relevant to your audience and leave plenty of time at the end for group discussion and mingling.

Make sure you have a take-away for them that includes pricing for some of the services you offer and your contact information. Leave them a form to offer you some feedback on the event itself. Many people attend meetings and don’t get too far, but the ones who do are the experts (those who aren’t afraid to get in front of the crowd).
